Well-Bread Bakery & Cafe

Just ten minutes north of Asheville in the heart of the ridge top town of Weaverville, Well-Bred Bakery and Café offers unexpected delights both sweet and savory. Gourmet pastries, artisan breads, fine gourmet foods and shade-grown, organic coffees beckon every eclectic taste. Open year-round from early morning to late evening, Well-Bred recreates the style and charm of an old world bakery in a historic building that once served as the town drugstore. Locals who congregated there as youngsters tell tales of lingering over sodas to hear the latest news. Today, the bakery & café serves this small mountain community in much the same fashion, with espresso and the New York Times updating the old traditions. Stroll up Main Street in either direction and linger in the small galleries, unique shops and pottery studios, then rest in the comfortable environs of the café and savor the aroma of fresh baked bread and the ever-new gourmet food creations of Chef Amy Fitzmorris. Guests are often overwhelmed by the array of fine pastry, baked goods and savory dishes, so bring your appetite and a spirit of indulgence!

Pastry Chef Laura Bogard creates exceptional cakes, cremes, pastries, and bars every morning to fill our huge pastry case. Try our famous Espresso Roulade (left), handmade truffles (right) or the Swedish Creme or Pistachio Apricot Bar (center rear & front) for a taste beyond compare.

Artisan Breads

Well-Bred Bakery is pleased to offer more than a dozen beautiful and delicious artisan breads. - everything from Challah to Whole Grain. Here are a few favorites: Challah : This delightfully soft, lightly sweet, egg bread is offered in multiple formats - braids, sandwich loaves, and a lovely Cranberry Pecan round (perfect for French Toast). Whole Wheat : A sandwich loaf that is soft, lightly sweet, and generous in size. This loaf also serves as the basis for our Sunflower Wheat. Italian Boule : Perfect for sandwiches, this large boule has a light, moist interior and crusty exterior - not too hard, not too soft. French Baguette : A traditional French classic, buttery, wheaty, faintly sweet, a thin crust and silken texture. Olive Oil & Rosemary : Extra virgin olive oil and fresh rosemary blend in this soft and pleasing bread with its silky texture and distinctive rosemary flavor. Sourdough : This rustic loaf sports a moist and chewy interior, subtle sour flavor, and delicate crust.
