Sweet Betty Bee's Honey and Hive
As local as it gets for folks around here, our honey and beeswax come from country bees at our home just outside Asheville, North Carolina, and from city bees kept within blocks of Pack Square, downtown. And then there are the farm bees - it is our partnership with Annie Louise and Isaiah Perkinson and Flying Cloud Farm in Fairview that allows us the deep satisfaction of possibly giving something back in the bigger scheme of things. As long-time supporters of family farms and organic growing principles, we're proud to have our sunny yellow hives lined up at the edges of Flying Cloud fields. We see our apiaries as a partnership with the bees and with the whole of Mother Nature. While proximity to conventional farming methods prevents us from claiming our honey is organic (bees will forage miles from home), we practice organic principles to the greatest extent possible by finding alternatives to pesticides and antibiotics. Additionally, we do not feed corn syrup or sugar to our bees. Honey and pollen are bees’ natural diet. Why give them anything else? Our strong belief and slogan is thusly: Healthier, happier bees make better honey©
