Reedy Violins
I began making fiddles in 1990 as a hobby and to have instruments to play. As of late 2003 I have completed 36, including a few violas. Since retirement I am making and repairing instruments full time. My fiddles are in use by old-time, bluegrass and classical musicians. Each individual has his/her preferences and requirements regarding sound and playing setup. Sound is relatively fixed by construction but setup can be modified to suit the individual. We specialize in trying to accomodate the individual, and with our low volume we are very flexible. I have recently added hand-carved chinrests at the request of friends who needed them. Some have been fully customized by making a mold of the chin. Others are more generic but based upon the average of custom shapes. Fully customized ones are available at higher prices.
