Arkenstone Crafts
Jesse has been working with hemp for 10 years. He learned while on a cross country road trip. It really clicked one day while on top of a mountain in Boulder, Colorado with his friends Paul & Brett. Ever since that day he has been making things for friends, family & of course, himself! Being a very creative person to begin with, musically, spiritually, & poetically, he's made up several unique techniques of his own which spawned into things like butterflies, dolls & even a set of Nordic runes. Christine & Jesse met in the fall of 2001 on Jesse's birthday, October 13, to be exact. They instantly hit it off. A short while after they got together Jesse starting teaching Christine how to weave hemp. Christine picked up on it pretty well, but as with anything, practice makes perfect. Realizing the uniqueness of their work they decided to make this a business. The name "Arkenstone" comes from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. It was the most precious stone at the heart of The Lonely Mountain. Both Jesse & Christine grew up in South Florida but they have always been drawn to the mountains & after their marriage on September 20, 2003 they moved to Asheville, NC. Jesse is a Tolkien freak, so they named their business "Arkenstone Crafts" & it stuck...Since moving to Asheville we've had an addition to our family . On Nov 21 Gaia Day was born.
